The level design is incredibly meticulous and the AI is, for the most part, well-programmed. Instead, Lince Works focus on bringing forth a fantastic stealth experience and they truly succeeded. Aragami is not stuffed to the brim with unnecessary filler. If you’re hungering for an action game, this isn’t it and that’s completely okay. Do you cut down every guard in sight or do you try to progress as fast as you can?

This means that areas with lamps illuminating the vicinity will restrict what you can do and expose you to the guards patrolling the area. However, you’re not an all-powerful and unstoppable force of nature as you are incredibly weak to light. Aragami excels at giving the player freedom which adds an immense amount of replay value. This adds an entirely new layer to gameplay as when you progress and unlock more techniques, you can handle situations in entirely new ways. Instead, you’re imbued with supernatural abilities such as being able to teleport into the shadows or summon a dragon.
This means that you are more than just a human with a dagger and some oddly silent boots. When it comes to the gameplay, Aragami offers a variety of refreshing features as your playable character is a dark vengeful spirit. Should Batman be spotted by some of the lowly testosterone-fuelled henchman, he’ll be put into an incredibly vulnerable position akin to dancing in front of a firing squad.

Of course, there’s exceptions to this rule with games such as the Arkham series taking stealth far more seriously. Rarely is it treated as a necessity as, if you fail, the only punishment is that you’ll be thrown back into the usual gameplay much like when you were a kid and fell off the sofa when playing ‘the floor is lava’. We live in an era of gaming where stealth is mostly an alternative to combat in a plethora of mainstream titles.
